Sidi Bou Saïd

Situation

It’s perched on the cliff that is overlooking Carthage and the Gulf of Tunis, the medieval village of Sidi Bou Said is a small paradise in the typical colours of the Mediterranean.

Over the paved streets, the visitor discovers the tangle of houses that are dressed in white limes of moucharabiehs and blue shutters of Sidi Bou Said.

Architecture

The heavy studded doors open into secret gardens lined with ceramic and full of bougainvillea. In the past a quiet fishing village, it owes its international reputation in the English Baron Rodolphe d'Erlanger who settled there in 1912 and built a sumptuous palace.

Musical art

Like a Lover of music, it opened its doors to artists of all stripes by organizing meetings and parties that combined art, music and literature. After his death in 1932, his heirs bequeathed his assets to Tunisia. Today Sidi Bou Said has become the rendezvous of artists, the young bourgeoisie and foreigners in search of exotic…

Several art galleries have taken up there residence... However, it is a marvel of architecture with its ancient restored palaces, that are painted in white and blue and it has a hushed atmosphere of paradise...

You will love the famous café des Nattes, where you will dominate the village's main street, where you will walk with no real purpose, along streets that are almost bewitching, very early in the morning or at sunset; the contrasts of light make Sidi Bou Said a magical place.
